Privacy

This page explains the information BackcountryBuddy uses to provide weather information and access through text.

Information involved

When you use BCB, the service can receive your phone number, the messages you send, and a location you choose to share. It also keeps service information needed to recognize access, answer requests, operate the product, and investigate failures or misuse.

Stripe processes payment details. BCB receives limited payment and subscription records needed to identify the purchased access and confirm whether payment succeeded. BCB does not need to place card details in its application code.

How information is used

BCB uses this information to deliver location-specific weather responses, manage purchased access, maintain SMS service records, provide support, and protect the service. A shared location is saved so later weather requests can use it until it is replaced or removed.

Service providers

BCB relies on providers including Twilio for messaging, Stripe for payments, Vercel for the public website and owner tools, and weather, radar, alert, mapping, or geocoding providers needed to answer requests. Those providers handle information under their own terms and privacy practices.

Retention

BCB retains personal information only as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, administer purchases, prevent abuse, satisfy legal and accounting requirements, and resolve disputes. Different records can require different retention periods. Information that is no longer reasonably required is deleted, anonymized, or securely retained where the law requires it.

Processing outside Canada

Service providers such as Twilio, Stripe, and Vercel may process or store information outside Canada. Information processed in another country may be subject to that country’s laws and lawful access requirements.

Your choices

You decide whether to send a location or message. Without a usable location, BCB cannot provide location-specific conditions. You may ask about access, correction, or deletion of personal information through BackcountryBuddy Support. Please do not include sensitive information in a support message. BCB may need to verify the request and may retain information where reasonably necessary or legally required.
